Well known for being a low carb diet, the point of this diet is to stimulate your body to produce ketones in the liver to be used as energy. With Keto diet your body will be drastically reducing carbohydrate intake, and replacing it with fat. When this happens your body becomes very efficient at burning fats for energy (fats are turned into keton in the liver–> more energy for your brain). The reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. The end goal of a properly maintained keto diet is, in fact, to force your body into this metabolic state. We don’t do this through starvation of calories but starvation of carbohydrates.
